2022 Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival
2022 marks the 40th Anniversary of the Cortez Commercial Fishing Festival
Admission is only $5 for adults, while kids under 12 are free. The entrance to the festival is at the Florida Maritime Museum, 4415 119th St. W., with plenty of parking for a small donation of $5 to the local Boy Scouts.
This year’s theme is “gearing up,” a term fishermen use in reference to getting their equipment ready to head out to sea. A fitting term since the festival was canceled in 2021 due to COVID-19.
Cortez is easy to miss as you make your way to Anna Maria Island. The sleepy fishing village is located off Cortez road on Sarasota Bay. As you enter Cortez you will notice the small cottage style homes, fishing boats, and commercial fishing gear. Cortez is home to two of the areas large fish houses, AP Bell Fish Co. and Killer Bait.
