Anna Maria Island Is Back and Better Than Ever: Welcome to Spring Break!

The journey hasn’t been easy—but the spirit of Anna Maria Island is stronger than ever. After enduring the winds and waters of Tropical Storm Debby, and the one-two punch of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, our tight-knit island community has rallied, rebuilt, and reopened. We’re proud to say that Anna Maria Island is ready—and excited—to welcome you back for an unforgettable Spring Break.

If you’ve been dreaming about sugar-white sands, the sound of Gulf waves, and the laid-back island lifestyle that makes AMI one of Florida’s best-kept secrets, now’s the time to plan your trip. From restaurants and retail shops to tours and beach rentals, nearly everything is open—and the beaches? Absolutely stunning.

Here’s a look at how Anna Maria Island has bounced back—and why your next vacation here will be just what you need.

Anna Maria Island Spring Break

The Resilience of a Community

Tropical Storm Debby tested our strength, and Hurricanes Helene and Milton forced us to dig deep. We saw streets flood, docks collapse, dunes erode, sand – oh my gosh y’all so much sand, roofs were ripped off, trees were down, and then came the fires as electricity was restored to the island and surrounding areas. But through it all, our community stood together. Neighbors helped neighbors. Volunteers joined hands to clear debris. Local businesses made tough decisions, worked long hours, and stayed hopeful.

At AMI Rentals, we were in the thick of it—issuing refunds, rescheduling guests, and helping however we could. Our shop in Cortez took on 26 inches of water, yet we managed to keep our carts safe. But even when the skies were dark, we knew this: Anna Maria Island would rise again.

And it has.

The Beaches Are Beautiful

Let’s start with what everyone wants to know first: how are the beaches?

Short answer? They’re breathtaking.

Mother Nature has an incredible way of healing, and nowhere is that more obvious than our shoreline. Beach renourishment projects have helped restore sand where it was lost, and the Gulf waters are as clear and calm as ever. Shelling has been exceptional lately, thanks to the storm shifts—so don’t forget your beach bag and bucket.

From Bean Point to Coquina Beach, you’ll find wide open stretches of powdery sand, vibrant sunsets, and that classic AMI vibe that draws visitors back year after year.

Restaurants Are Open and Cooking

It’s no secret that food is part of the island experience, and we’re thrilled to say that nearly all of our beloved restaurants have reopened.

Some have taken the opportunity to refresh their menus or renovate interiors, so you might even find a new favorite dish or dining spot. Whether you’re craving tacos from Los Chiludos, digging into stone crab claws at Swordfish Grill, grabbing breakfast at Minnie’s Beach Cafe, or enjoying the lively vibe at Bridge Tender Inn, there’s something for every taste.

And thanks to IslandEats AMI, many of your favorite restaurants offer food delivery right to your rental. So whether you’re staying in for a beach day or hosting a family dinner, local flavors are just a few taps away.

Shops and Boutiques Are Ready for You

Retail therapy, island style, is back in full swing.

Our local shops—many of which are small, family-owned businesses—have worked hard to reopen and restock. Whether you’re looking for beachwear, gifts, art, souvenirs, or something unique to take home, Pine Avenue, Bridge Street, and the other island shopping hubs are buzzing again.  Don’t forget to stop at one of our favorites the Orginial Sand Dollar in Holmes Beach.

Supporting these businesses does more than just fill your suitcase with cool finds—it helps AMI families and keeps the heart of our community beating strong.

Tour Operators Are Open and Excited to Welcome You Back

No trip to Anna Maria Island is complete without exploring the water—and our local tour operators are ready to help you make the most of your Spring Break.

Looking to relax? Book a sunset cruise and watch the sky turn gold and pink as dolphins play in the waves. Want something more adventurous? Try parasailing or jet skiing for a thrill you’ll never forget.

And don’t miss out on our famous sandbar tours—whether you’re shelling, swimming, or just soaking up the sun, these tours offer an unforgettable experience in crystal-clear waters.

We’re proud to recommend trusted partners like Pirate Adventure of Cortez, who bring fun, family-friendly excitement with every trip.

Golf Carts, Beach Gear, and All the Extras You Need

At AMI Rentals, we know how important the little details are to a great vacation. Whether it’s a fully-charged golf cart waiting in your driveway, or your beach setup delivered and ready to go, we’ve got you covered.

We’re fully operational and ready for Spring Break—with a fleet of 4-, 6-, and 8-passenger golf carts, beach gear essentials, and concierge services to help you make the most of every sun-soaked day.

Pro tip: book early. Spring Break is our busiest season, and carts go fast.

What’s New Since the Storms?

While the storms brought damage, they also brought opportunity. You’ll notice:

  • Updated beach access points and improved dune walkovers
  • Freshly painted storefronts and restaurant interiors
  • Improved flood mitigation systems and more eco-friendly landscaping
  • A renewed sense of pride and gratitude from business owners and locals alike

If you’ve visited AMI before, you’ll feel the same island charm—but with a renewed energy.

Tips for a Smooth Spring Break

Plan ahead: With demand high, make dinner reservations, book tours early, and reserve your golf carts and beach gear in advance.

Pack smart: Bring sunscreen, reusable water bottles, your favorite beach read, and maybe a light sweater for breezy evenings.

Support local: Whether it’s a tip for your kayak guide, buying from a small boutique, or ordering food from a locally owned restaurant, every dollar stays here and supports our recovery.

Be patient and kind: Many local businesses are still hiring and training new staff post-storm, so a little kindness goes a long way.

Thank You for Standing by AMI

If you had to cancel a trip, reschedule plans, or wait patiently while we rebuilt, thank you.

If you’ve been checking the webcams, watching the tide reports, and waiting for the perfect time to return—that time is now.

Anna Maria Island is open, thriving, and full of everything you love. Whether you’re coming back to a favorite rental or exploring the island for the first time, we’re here to help you make memories that last a lifetime.
