Anna Maria Island Parking Rules: What Every Visitor Should Know
One of the most common questions we receive at AMI Rentals is about parking on Anna Maria Island—and for good reason. Parking regulations can be confusing, especially since Anna Maria Island is made up of three separate municipalities, each with its own parking rules and enforcement.
Our goal is to help you enjoy your vacation, not spend it dealing with parking tickets. A little knowledge before you arrive can save you time, money, and frustration.
Anna Maria Island Has Three Municipalities
Although it feels like one island, Anna Maria Island consists of three cities:
- Anna Maria
- Holmes Beach
- Bradenton Beach
Each city has its own parking ordinances, enforcement officers, and payment system for parking citations. We encourage all visitors to review the local rules before parking throughout the island.

Common Parking Violations
While each city has its own specific ordinances, some of the most common reasons visitors receive parking tickets include:
- Parking with tires on the pavement
- Parked facing the wrong direction
- Angle Parking
- Parking too close to an intersection or driveway
- Parking in a no-parking zone
- Blocking sidewalks or public access points
- Parking outside designated parking spaces
- Parking in residential areas where restrictions apply
One rule we always remind our golf cart renters about is to park completely off the roadway with all four tires off the pavement whenever required and always obey posted parking signs.
What Happens If You Receive a Parking Ticket?
Parking tickets can be a touchy subject for both visitors and local rental companies.
If you receive a citation during your stay, the first notice is typically placed directly on your golf cart or vehicle. Each municipality provides an online payment option, making it easy to pay the citation promptly.
The challenge comes when that first notice is ignored.
If the ticket remains unpaid, the municipality mails a second notice to the registered owner of the vehicle—in our case, AMI Rentals. By then, the original fine has often increased due to late fees. Continued delays can result in additional penalties and may even prevent vehicle registration renewals until the citation is resolved.
How You Can Help
At AMI Rentals, we simply ask our guests to do two things if they receive a parking citation during their rental:
- Let us know as soon as possible.
- Pay the citation promptly using the payment instructions provided by the city.
Most guests handle tickets immediately, and we truly appreciate that. Unfortunately, there are occasions when we don’t learn about a citation until weeks later when the notice arrives in the mail with additional late fees already added.

Can You Appeal a Parking Ticket?
We wish we had better news for visitors who want to contest a parking citation. While you absolutely have the right to appeal a parking ticket issued by any of the three municipalities, we want to set realistic expectations. Over the years, we’ve seen many guests choose to dispute their citations, but unfortunately, we have not personally seen an appeal result in the ticket being dismissed.
Every situation is unique, and if you believe a citation was issued in error, you should certainly exercise your right to appeal. However, in most cases, paying the ticket promptly is the quickest and least expensive option, as delaying payment while waiting for the appeal process can sometimes result in additional fees if the citation is ultimately upheld.
